Can your student's meet the Principals' Challenge?
How do you encourage your students to read? There can never be too many opportunities. One way is to issue a Principals' Challenge for the 2004-2005 school year. Here is how it works: |
|---|
Challenge your students to read a specific (and realistic) number of books from October 1, 2004, to your specified deadline before February 11, 2005. It is recommended that you begin your challenge in the fall in a schoolwide kickoff assembly. If your students reach the goal, reward them by acting out a book scene, becoming a book character or in some other creative way. This year's challenge will be judged on the revelance to the theme and the encouragement of reading. For assistance, ask your library media specialist, teachers, your students, or you may want to check out one of the tapes of our 2004 contest winners. Contact Oweta Calvert, Director Oklahoma Celebration of Reading, (580) 497-3922 for a tape. We also have a booklet of ideas. |
Principals need to send only ONE report; the entry form and wrap-up are all in one. Return your completed entry form and wrap-up by February 18, 2005. The report might include a video, pictures, essay, newspaper articles, etc. Mail Principals' Challenge entries to Lorie George, State Department of Education, Standards and Curriculum, 2500 N. Lincoln Boulevard, #315, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73105-4599. |
Winners will be notified by February 25, 2005. During the Celebration awards event, March 11, 2005. Videotape from the winners and/or materials sent with the winning principals' reports will be featured. The winning principals will receive a prize and will be honored during the finale event on March 11, 2005. Click below for entry form |
