Only one week left to go in the 2006 Oklahoma Legislative Session and there is still no agreement on anything major!  No agreement on appropriations / no agreement on budgets / no agreement on tax cuts / no agreement on education funding …….or anything else!

            In what is turning into a classic standoff, Democrat Governor Brad Henry has reached an appropriations and budget agreement with the House Republican leadership.  This agreement has left the Senate Democrat leadership angry, left out and scrambling to come up with alternatives. 

 

We are hopeful that a weekend at home might calm everyone down and that they may return Monday with an attitude of compromise.  If agreements aren’t reached soon - - like Monday at the latest - - we will simply run out of time before the Constitutional requirement that the session adjourn no later that 5:00 pm next Friday, May 26^th.  So much to be done and so little time!

 

At this time, I would wager that it is 50 / 50 that we will adjourn without finalizing everything and be required to come back for special session in June.
